The director-general of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari will make some difficult decisions on COVID-19 containment next week. Ihekweazu made the statement while on a courtesy call to the Katsina state governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Masari in his office at Government House Katsina.

He said: ”President Buhari will on Wednesday have a teleconference with the governors and there will be some difficult decisions to be made on how to restart the economy, especially on what to start and what not to start.”
On his part, the governor demanded the establishment of a testing centre in Katsina to ensure speedy confirmation of samples of suspected cases in the state. He noted that Katsina state officials had to travel for about 12 hours after collecting samples of suspected patients for a test in the laboratory at Abuja. “Availability of a testing centre here will actually help in reducing the duration and the stress we are presently going through. “Samples from Katsina had to reach Abuja in 24 hours otherwise it would not be tested,” Masari told the NCDC boss.

In the meantime, Nigeria confirm new 117 new cases of COVID-19, make the total 782 according to NCDC.

Recall that Dr Ihekweazu recently informed Nigerians that life won’t return to normal after the COVID-19 pandemic. He stated this while speaking on a radio programme in Lagos on Monday, April 20. He said that a return to the pre-COVID lifestyle, once the current restrictions are relaxed, could bring about a high resurgence of the infection.
